Safeguarding in our school
At Lympstone C of E Primary School safeguarding is our priority. We recognise the need for vigilance and awareness at all times concerning all aspects of safeguarding. All staff have appropriate training and induction so that they understand their roles and responsibilities and are confident about carrying them out. Training is updated annually for all staff and aspects of safeguarding are regularly discussed at weekly staff meetings and Governors meetings. This does not include individual cases due to confidentiality.
Staff, pupils, parents and Governors should feel secure that they can raise any issues or concerns about the safety or welfare of children and know that they will be listened to and taken seriously. We endeavour to achieve this by promoting an ethos of pro-active safeguarding, putting the welfare of children and young people as well as protecting staff at the forefront. This is achieved by constant open communication, an awareness of protocols, clear behaviour, anti-bullying and child protection policies, appropriate induction and training, briefing and discussion of relevant issues and relevant learning in line with current legislature and guidelines.

Keeping children safe in education 2023
Radicalisation and Extremism
The Government defines extremism as vocal or active opposition to fundamental British values including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs.
Some children are at risk of being radicalised: adopting beliefs and engaging in activities which are harmful, criminal or dangerous. Islamic extremism is the most widely publicised form and schools should also remain alert to the risk of radicalisation into white supremacy extremism.
School staff receive training to help to identify signs of extremism. Opportunities are provided in the curriculum to enable pupils to discuss issues of religion, ethnicity and culture and the school follows the DfE advice Promoting fundamental British Values as part of SMCS (spiritual, moral, social and cultural education) in Schools (2014).
Volunteers in School
We are fortunate to have a number of volunteers working with us at Lympstone C of E Primary School. Their help is invaluable both in the classroom and with championing children who need additional support with reading. We have robust procedures in place to ensure our volunteers comply with safeguarding requirements.
For more details on volunteering please speak with our Headteacher Mrs Emily Mellor or our Senior Administrator Mrs Elaine Fisher.
Operation Encompass
Our school is pleased to be part of Operation Encompass - an agreement with the Police and the school to share information, in confidence, where a child has been exposed to or involved in a domestic incident. This information should reach school immediately which helps us to be ready to support both you and your child from the minute they walk through the gates. More information is available from their website www.operationencompass.org
